Nestled in the heart of Lake Buena Vista, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is a vibrant American restaurant bringing the spirited flavors of Louisiana straight to your plate. This charming eatery expertly marries classic Southern comfort with a playful Disney twist, making it an irresistible destination for both locals and visitors eager for an authentic taste experience.

The menu is a treasure trove of savory delights and sweet treats that beckon food lovers to indulge. Dive into the rich, soul-warming jambalaya—an aromatic symphony of sausage, chicken thighs, and fragrant spices—accompanied by hearty, golden cornbread. The gumbo here is another standout, a stew simmered to perfection, overflowing with bold flavors and a comforting depth that transports you straight to the bayous of Louisiana. For a lighter yet equally satisfying option, the shrimp po' boy sandwich delivers crispy, seasoned shrimp nestled in a fresh bun, boasting layers of texture and zest that are simply unforgettable.

Beyond the savory, Sassagoula charms with its iconic Mickey-shaped beignets—pillowy, golden fried dough dusted with powdered sugar. Their caramel sauce accompaniment elevates each bite into a perfect balance of sweet and indulgent, making for an ideal dessert or snack any time of day. From the pumpkin spice beignets adding a seasonal twist to the classic favorites, to the Mardi Gras King Cake delivering a festive flair, the desserts alone are worth the visit.

This inviting food factory caters to a diverse range of tastes and dietary needs, offering fresh fruit options like crisp grapes and bananas, as well as milk alternatives such as soy chocolate and vanilla milk to accommodate plant-based diets. For guests navigating gluten and wheat allergies, there are thoughtful selections like the Waffle Bounty Platter—a hearty combination of Mickey-shaped waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage, or flavorful omelets served with potato barrels to start your day off right.

What truly sets Sassagoula apart, however, is its warm and lively atmosphere. The food court’s spacious design features both indoor and outdoor seating that invites relaxation and enjoyment. Friendly, attentive staff are always on hand, ensuring every meal feels like a special occasion. Brent’s glowing mention of the clean environment and excellent drink mug refills highlights the well-rounded, guest-focused service experience.

Whether you’re craving a comforting breakfast bowl, a satisfying sandwich, or a rich Cajun dinner, Anne Matrone’s praise sums it up perfectly: “Many choices that will cover all different tastes and something for everyone.” With flavors that excite the palate and an ambiance that embraces the joyful spirit of New Orleans, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is not just a meal stop—it’s a flavorful journey that lingers in your memory long after the last bite.

We enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and also had some Greek yogurt. The menu selections are very good, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the food court is clean with ample indoor and outdoor seating. This is also an excellent place to refill your Disney drink mugs. For desert, we enjoyed the beignets with caramel sauce at an outdoor table to better take in the NOLA holiday playlist.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory promises to bring the bold flavors of Louisiana to your plate, and I was more than ready for the ride. I went all in with two classics: the jambalaya with cornbread and the gumbo—both featuring sausage and chicken thighs, because if you're not eating something simmered to perfection with meat and spice, are you even in the South? The Jambalaya – A Love Story Let’s start with the good news: the jambalaya was an absolute winner. The tomato-based sauce was rich and hearty, giving every bite that slow-cooked, deep Southern comfort feel. The rice was perfectly cooked, the sausage packed just the right amount of smoky spice, and the chicken was juicy and tender. If food had a personality, this dish would be that warm, slightly eccentric aunt who always smells like paprika and gives the best hugs. And then there was the cornbread—moist, slightly sweet, and basically the best edible spoon you could ask for. If they had given me a plate of just jambalaya and an entire loaf of cornbread, I wouldn’t have complained. The Gumbo – A Cautionary Tale And then… there was the gumbo. Oh, gumbo. I had such high hopes. It looked promising—dark, rich broth, a generous amount of chicken and sausage, and that unmistakable slow-simmered aroma. But then I took a bite and immediately wondered if I had accidentally insulted the chef in a past life. The sheer amount of black pepper in this dish didn’t just season it—it took over. My taste buds weren’t being introduced to spice; they were being held hostage. The broth had complexity, sure, but it was like trying to appreciate a fine wine while someone blasts a foghorn in your ear. Somewhere beneath the pepper assault, I could tell this gumbo had real potential, but unfortunately, my palate was too busy sending distress signals to truly enjoy it. Final Verdict – A Tale of Two Dishes Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory definitely delivers on Louisiana-inspired flavors, but it’s a bit of a rollercoaster. The jambalaya? A masterpiece. The gumbo? An endurance challenge for your spice tolerance. Would I eat here again? Absolutely. Would I order the gumbo again? Only if I had a glass of milk, a loaf of bread, and possibly a support group ready to help me recover. In short, if you’re looking for a meal that hits all the right Southern notes, this place has some solid options—but if you’re not prepared for an aggressive spice attack, maybe stick with the jambalaya.

Shrimp po boy among best I’ve had. Gumbo stellar as well. Jambalaya pretty good too. Definitely worth a trip from nearby hotels (I’m not staying here)

Had to have the Bignets, they are pretty good and made fresh. Still warm when we got them, not as good as Cafe Du Mondes but very yummy and a good coffee as well. Definitely worth the visit and beautifully decorated. Seen some characters as well when we stopped in.

If you're staying in either the French Quarter, you can't miss this, and if you're staying at Port Orleans Riverside like I was, the beignets were worth the boat ride. Absolutely delicious and they will definitely be a factor for when I decide where to stay next time I visit the Disney World Resort.

Great food here and lovely staff who are happy to help with anything. I loved how big this food court was compared to the more upmarket hotels. You get proper cutlery and plates which you don’t receive at the riverside resort. Catering was great for gluten free meals.
